The Bungie Weekly Update (BWU) was a weekly news update that gave the Bungie Community a look into the current events and projects at Bungie and in the Halo series.
The BWU was a direct descendant of the Seventh Column Week in Review, and was replaced in 2016 with This Week at Bungie.
History[]
On January 16, 2004,[1] Frank O'Connor began a series of weekly reports on the progress of Halo 2, known as Frankie's Bungie Update. After the release of Halo 2, he continued making reports on the general state of things at Bungie under the name Bungie Weekly What's Update, which was later shortened to Bungie Weekly Update.
The weekly update continued after Halo 3 was announced, and Frankie would give detailed updates on how the construction of the game was going, including graphics, sound, and other details. The same task was later carried out by lukems and urk with Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach.
Halo community news in Bungie Weekly Updates were discontinued after Bungie Day 2011 when Bungie went dark with news to focus on Destiny's development. Taking their place were Mail Sacks, Q&A posts which were written by DeeJ. In 2013,[2] the Bungie Weekly Update started up again until being replaced with This Week at Bungie in 2016.[3]

The Bungie Weekly Update included numerous interesting and informative features, such as images, interviews, and extended monologues by Frankie on various projects, and ideas for upcoming Bungie or Halo products. It often featured new updates to Bungie's online store, and Halo matchmaking updates on Xbox Live.
One of the fan favorite sections was the "whaaaambulance" section. The section was illustrated by a Multiplayer Spartan driving a Warthog with a red cross on it, resembling a modern ambulance. The section included emails and letters from players who had been blocked from Xbox Live for modding or cheating in one of the Halo games. The players would often admit to cheating or making an excuse for their actions, and the writer of the BWU would make fun of them.
Included with most updates was a fairly bad drawing of the Master Chief, with eyes and a mouth drawn on the outside of his helmet; this character is known as Mister Chief.
