Bungie History
Early History
Foman's hobby, video gaming, led him to Bungie after the release of Halo: Combat Evolved and he soon thereafter found Bungie.net. Lurking and reading the Bungie forums for over three years, Foman finally created an account on June 12, 2006.
Summer 2006 through Spring 2007
Although his time spent on Bungie.net was about the same, Foman instantly became more visible, posting frequently in the Halo 2 and Optimatch forums. His posting style quickly went from short one-liners or poll responses to become long and wordy. It wasn't long before Foman gained the reputation of being one of Bungie.net's most chatty, verbose, and prolific posters.
When Bungie.net's Halo 3 Forum went live, Foman quickly migrated to it, joining in the speculation, ideas, and theories located there. Happily jumping into heated arguments, Foman's reputation became known as one of polite but well-reasoned and well-supported assertiveness. Striving to keep maturity and intelligent discussion a possibility and reality on the Halo 3 Forum, Foman was the creator of several popular threads.
Foman's thread "Best New Marine Environment Interactions" remained on the Halo 3 Forum's front page for three months, garnering hundreds of hilarious and thoughtful ideas for the NPC Marines in Halo 3. His thread "Spartans Can't Float" was a short scientific explanation of why the graphical effect of dead Spartans floating in water is physically impossible. Within ten minutes of its posting, Frankie posted the now famous reply "Shut up nerds!" and locked the thread. After Frankie and Foman agreed that the thread should be unlocked, the gold Septagon next to the thread, the scientific discussion, and Frankie's reply caused the thread to gain over 500 replies, and Frankie's "Shut up nerds!" quote became the most popular signature on Bungie.net profiles for weeks.
The Guide
Foman became very involved in the Bungie Community. In the winter of 2006, he discovered The Guide, a Chapter on Bungie.net devoted to archiving information about the Seventh Column, reviewing Groups, and interviewing notable Bungie Community members such as moderators, chapter founders, and forum regulars. At the time, The Guide was a Dead Group, with no activity for several months prior to Foman's arrival. After several conversations with The Guide leader Gods Prophet, Foman was given the custom role of Senior Editor in The Guide and charged with reviving the group's activity.
Foman threw himself into the task with gusto, interviewing dozens of Forum Ninjas, chapter founders, and community members, as well as conducting several chapter reviews and recruiting a fresh new staff. Foman also created a separate Private chapter just for The Guide's staff, where interviews and chapter reviews are organized and assigned and where staff members can receive helpful editing and tips on creating great content for The Guide. Under Gods Prophet's and Foman's guidance, The Guide quickly reestablished itself as a prestigious and helpful group, boasting an impressive membership list including several Bungie Employees and Forum Ninjas.
Foman retains his role as Senior Editor of The Guide, ensuring that new, fresh content occurs regularly and that the group maintains its mature and interesting role in the Bungie Community.
Bungiepedia
After BL4H00G4N4 created the Bungiepedia Wikia, Foman became interested and created dozens of articles about Bungie. After BL4H00G4N4 realized that he had other time commitments and could not devote much time to Bungiepedia, he bestowed Bureaucrat and Administrator rights on Foman, thus giving Foman complete control over Bungiepedia's content and growth.
Currently, Foman continues his work on Bungiepedia, creating an all-new Main Page, writing and updating articles, and moderating Bungiepedia's content.
CompoundIntelligence
Foman's visibility and recognizability on Bungie.net increased exponentially in the summer of 2007. A few hours after AdjutantReflex posted for the first time on Bungie.net, Foman and WhiteRaven119 had a conversation via MSN Messenger during which Foman noted the amount of spam in the Halo 3 Forum created by AdjutantReflex's post.
Foman and WhiteRaven119 quickly hatched the idea of creating a group dedicated to AdjutantReflex discussion in order to alleviate some of the Halo 3 Forum's spam. Naming the group CompoundIntelligence after the security role of the mysterious AdjutantReflex, Foman did the honors of creating the group and setting up its basic format.
Witnessing exponential growth unlike any any other group in the history of Bungie.net, CompoundIntelligence quickly became known not only as Bungie.net's largest group, but also the best possible place to go for up-to-the-second information and and discussion of the Halo 3 Viral Marketing Campaign, code-named "Iris." CompoundIntelligence's forum was the place where the vast majority of Iris discoveries were made during the entire three-month course of the game.
Because Foman's name was listed as the founder, and because WhiteRaven119 was forced to be away from Bungie.net for several weeks in the beginning of Iris, as well as Foman's active participation in the administration of CompoundIntelligence, Foman became the go-to person on Bungie.net for Iris information. Communicating with the leaders of other forums and websites devoted to Iris, Foman began to receive dozens of private messages on Bungie.net per day.
Foman saw his private messages per day triple when he began receiving private messages from AdjutantReflex, which were all stickied and heavily discussed in the Halo 3 Forum and all over the internet for weeks. It wasn't long before Foman became arguably the most well-known regular member on Bungie.net. Because the number of private messages was so overwhelming, Foman was unable to respond to all of them, thus giving the false impression that he was more mysterious than he actually is. Multiple threads appeared with speculation that Foman was either a Bungie employee or otherwise involved in the Iris ARG, despite his repeated insistence that he was not.
Eventually, however, Bungie.net members realized that Foman was not involved and was merely the leader of CompoundIntelligence. This realization, however, did not slow down the number of people communicating with Foman, and his involvement in Iris became nearly indispensable.
Recent History
After the conclusion of Iris, Foman settled back into his familiar role, posting frequently in the Community forum, making silly pictures, talking with his Bungie.net colleagues and friends, and happily running his groups and Bungiepedia. After repurposing CompoundIntelligence, Foman continues to run the group and guide its discussion, now dedicated to theories, facts, and speculation about the vast Halo Universe.
Foman was invited to become a Forum Ninja on March 4, 2008.
He is still a daily active member on Bungie.net, and is easily reachable via private message there or through his user talk page here on Bungiepedia.
