“I still wonder if Mike had something to do with it.”
~ Marty O'Donnell on the O'Donnell - Salvatori Total Audio studio burning to the ground
Total Audio Studios, or just Total Audio, (formally O'Donnell/Salvatori, Inc.) was the shared business of Marty O' Donnell and Michael Salvatori. When Bungie was in Chicago, Marty agreed to help them with their audio effects by doing contract work for them. Marty and Mike then proceeded to work on Bungie projects such as both Myth games and Oni.
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 13, 1999 a fire broke out at 360 W. Erie, in Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Fire Department poured water on the three alarm blaze for 12 hours. The third floor TotalAudio studio was completely destroyed. The duo moved to 400 W. Erie and re-set up shop with a video studio, which needed an audio department.
Marty eventually became a full-time Bungie employee due to the persuasive powers of Alex and Jason, and Mike would run the rest of the Total Audio studio while Marty was working on the Bungie projects. Ten days after that, Marty left Chicago for the rainier pastures of Washington, where Bungie had its new home.
